Description
This is a bird called an Anhinga. They spear fish with their beak. Yesterday while I was at a pond I go to I saw another Anhinga. That one had something on it`s beak but it was not a fish. The poor bird was flopping around trying to get the thing off it`s beak and was not having any luck.
********************
The end of their beak is serrated. So when something gets on there it stays pretty good. I knew from watching this bird that it was in trouble. I happen to carry a card with me for animal control. So I called them. They were there in about 15 minutes. The bird came close to shore so she was able to catch it with a net. Once we had the bird we were so surprised to see what was on it`s beak. It was the head of a stuffed monkey. Because of the material the bird probably would have never gotten it off of it`s beak. A man standing by used a knife to cut it off of the birds beak. We released the bird back in the pond and it is fine.
********************
Moral to this story is never throw anything in a pond that doesn`t not belong there.
